I have followed this show since the beginning and even purchased some of the early episodes on DVD. Unfortunately, I feel that the much-anticipated last episode of this season turned into a hot mess. The main thing that really appealed to me initially about this series was that the characters remained consistent to their values. Creating memorable characters is not an easy task, This season, Elizabeth developed something of a mean streak towards both Nathan and her friends in Hope Valley, which was not relatable at all to the kind nature this character had in previous seasons. During the last episode, it looked as though she had decided to bring her past life in Hamilton to Hope Valley instead of blending with the culture of Hope Valley and the sincere people who caused her to decide to settle there in the first place. The abrupt departure of the town doctor and his dismissive attitude towards his fiancee really topped off the disappointment with the episode. I hope that the writers will take some care with the next season.
I felt that Elizabeth was having a lot of trouble realizing that her heart was calling her to love again. I think she really was struggling with leaving Jack behind and moving ahead. I’ve seen similar reactions with friends in real life. When we are having a hard time, our loved ones tend to bear the brunt of our frustration and anger. Once she figured it out and was honest with herself, she was able to move forward, healing her friendship with Rosemary and moving forward with her life. Elizabeth has always enjoyed romantic dates as she had quite a few candlelit, dance-filled moments with Jack. If you haven’t, you might want to check out this interview with Erin Krakow, Chris McNally, and Kevin McGarry that Entertainment Tonight shared the night of the season 8 finale: http://www.heartieswcth.com/entertainment-tonight-when-calls-the-heart-cast-reacts-to-elizabeth-choosing-lucas/ . They discuss the events of the season finale and give some hints about what might happen in season 9. It’s a good one!
I wonder if anyone noticed that on Sunday May 9th the finale,Hallmark is showing erin krakow and chris mcnally movies. No mounty anywhere. Forshadowing perhaps. I hope so. TEAM LUCAS
I am watching and waiting that Lucas will be the one that Elizabeth chooses. I do believe Nathan should have been up front that he was at the same fort as Jack. and is guilty that Jack went in his place. If Elizabeth had not asked Nathan would he had ever tell her?probably not!
I wish I were as optimistic as you about the way this season will end. I dread that she will choose Nathan over Lucas. That would mean she has been leading on Lucas and will break his heart. I don’t want to continue watching if she chooses Nathan. It is not a vindictive reason, I just am not interested in seeing the series if it goes that way. Watching Lucas with Elizabeth has breathed new life into the series since Jack died. I decided to give the series another chance after Daniel Lissing left the series and was gradually drawn in again. But, I am not interested in another disappointing plot twist. I sincerely hope I am wrong as I will miss my Sunday 6:00 pm private time with When Calls the Heart.
I hope she stays with Lucas. He can give her the lifestyle and culture she grew up with and stay in Hope Valley. I am hoping that Nathan has an old girlfriend who will seek him out. Lucas has been so understanding of Elizabeth’s situation. Elizabeth would always be living on the edge worrying about Nathan’s safety. Stick with Lucas.
I want her to choose Lucas. History does not to repeat itself with her attached to another Mountie. I think she will be transferring her love for Jack to Nathan as a way to keep him alive. Hopefully she’ll realize that and go in a different by choosing Lucas.
I’m glad she picked Lucas. If she would have picked Nathan it would have been the same story just a different man. Plus she has way more chemistry with Lucas. I hope everyone will come together and root for Elizabeth and Lucas. So many have said they’ll quit watching because she didn’t pick Nathan. I hope not. We need a show we can watch with our kids that is decent. Maybe they’ll pair Nathan with Faith if Carson doesn’t come back or better yet Fiona. She’s a modern woman and she would keep Nathan on his toes.
I personally think if she does go to Lucas, I think it will be more dynamics in the show. I feel sure they will put a new love in Nathan’s life. But I have not counted Nathan out yet. I think they are making us believe she is leaning to Lucas. It all depends on the secret Nathan has been holding.
Allen, I will not stop watching because it is one of the only decent shows left to watch. However, I feel the writers need to review the voting and see that viewers want Elizabeth with Nathan. They are a perfect match. Please, please let Elizabeth get with Nathan.
Nathan looks at Elizabeth with true love (like Jack did) .. Lucas looks at her like a business deal.. if she wants true love ..pick Nathan. I’m not sure I can watch her with Lucas. I’ve watched from day one… And Jack doing was horrible… Let her may Nathan
.he loves her
Know that the actors, writers, and producers have assured us that both gentlemen, Lucas and Nathan, are good men and worthy of Elizabeth’s love. Showrunner/head writer John Tinker has told fans that the writers and producers considered what was best for the show and best for each character involved. Regardless of Elizabeth’s choice, both Lucas & Nathan are staying in Hope Valley.
I hope you will continue watching regardless of who is Elizabeth’s choice.
Being a newbie to the WCTH series, I’d like to purchase the DVDs but wondering about the differences between the movie episodes vs. Hallmark episodes that are listed on the season boxsets. (There’s also a WCTH movie collection with six movies but wondering if purchasing the season DVDs, those will be included; i.e., don’t buy the movie collection if purchasing the season sets.) Thanks in advance for any feedback/suggestions on buying the DVD collections. FYI, I’m currently eyeing the Season 1-7 Collection and the 3-movie Christmas set. Purchased separately, they’re currently cheaper vs. the Season 1-7 Ultimate Collection, which includes both of the aforementioned sets plus special non-aired features (unsure if the Ultimate Collection’s features is worth the extra $20).
There are many different configurations of DVD sets. Edify has explanations for each DVD collection on their website: https://edifystore.com/wcth/dvds/ If you still have questions, contact Edify. They are very good with customer service.

Unfortunately it appears Elizabeth will marry Lucas. If that happens I will discontinue watching the show.

i agree. Nathan is a better fit for a school teacher.
